Biography/Scientific Interests

During the course of my PhD research in developmental immunology in Paris, I have developed a strong interest in understanding the cell fate decisions occurring during differentiation. 

I carried on working on this aspect during my post-doc research in Manchester (UK) where I started to use embryonic stem cells to study the formation of blood progenitor and stem cells. This approach proved powerful to understand key biological events occurring in vivo but will also help to develop new methodologies for regenerative medicine. 

Since January 2011, I have started my research group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) where I continue to explore cell fate decisions with a particular focus on how blood progenitors and stem cells are born from endothelial cells during embryonic development. 

Interdisciplinarity has become essential to push the boundary of knowledge in biology. EMBL is an institute composed of very diverse and highly qualified research groups. Therefore, I have access to a very strong set of experts in various fields: structural biology, proteomics, bioinformatics, genomics, cell biology, development biology and advanced imaging. This unique environment will allow me to combine different methodological and innovative approaches to address key questions such as how a cell changes identity.
